About Me
Hello! My name is Tenglong Hong, and I am a first-year Ph.D. student in Transportation Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. I am very fortunate to be advised by Prof. Youngseo Kim. My research designs efficient data-driven decision-making methods for agents operating under uncertainty in complex, interconnected transportation and logistics systems. I also work closely with Prof. Paul Grigas at University of California, Berkeley IEOR on decision-focused learning and optimization algorithms for problems in machine learning and operations research. Previously, during my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Prof. Yu Zhang and Prof. Daniel Zhuoyu Long on distributionally robust optimization.
Research Interests
- Data-driven decision-making under uncertainty
- Contextual optimization and decision-focused machine learning
- Scalable optimization algorithms
- Transportation and logistics systems
Ongoing Research
My current research develops along two complementary directions.
1. Transportation and Logistics Systems
- Traveler Choice-Aware Transit Line Planning with Service–Fare Coordination. Tenglong Hong, J. Carlos Martínez Mori, Youngseo Kim. Manuscript in preparation, 2026.
2. Decision-Focused Learning and Scalable Optimization Algorithms
- A Barrier-Metric First-Order Method for Linearly Constrained Bilevel Optimization. Tenglong Hong, Paul Grigas. 2026.
